Mars, the global food and drinks corporation, has a subsidiary brand of drinks machines, Flavia. Mars is well-known for its commitment to environmental sustainability through its Thirsty for Change programme, and Flavia is very much a part of that, through developing drinks machines and drinks that adhere to the programme's principles.

In particular, the Flavia Creation 400 machine has been developed to be as energy efficient as possible. One of the ways this works is that the machine heats just enough water to serve a few drinks at a time, so as not to waste electricity on heating a full tank every time someone wants a drink.

As well as this energy saving feature, the Flavia Creation 400 only heats the water to exactly the right temperature for the drinks, so it doesn't unnecessarily heat the water to boiling like most other machines in the same marketplace. Independent tests have confirmed that these features lead to the Creation machine being one of the most energy efficient you can buy.

As well as being good for the environment, these energy saving features are good for your bottom line. With the machine not reaching boiling temperature, and only having a small amount of water being heated each time, you don't have to use so much electricity, thus both saving the environment and your running expenses.

As part of its environmental campaign, Mars has targeted three main areas in which it wishes to tackle waste. These are the drinks machines, the actual drinks, and the packaging associated with each. On top of this, they've introduced new systems for collection and recycling that customers can take advantage of.

The mantra for Mars and Flavia is the same as that for the whole environmentally sustainable industry - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. So Flavia have developed their products, including their drinks cartons, to be reusable wherever possible, manufactured from reusable materials, and to be recyclable as much as they can.

And it doesn't stop there, as Mars have taken the decision to source their ingredients for Flavia drinks from sustainable businesses around the world. They work closely with well-known organisations such as the Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade to help their suppliers act responsibly in terms of the environment.

The Thirst for Change programme, then, including the commitment from Flavia, ensures that the drinks machines and the drinks themselves are as friendly to the environment as they can be. And Mars's dedication to this also extends to getting their suppliers on board with the sustainability message.
